Where is Ilex Forest Located ?
It is located between Route 34 and Azalea Town in the Johto region. You will get into Johto after completing the journey of the Kanto region.
How to Enter Ilex Forest ?
Follow this step-by-step guide to enter Ilex Forest easily:
- After completing the journey and fulfilling all the battles and quests in the Kanto region, you will enter the Johto region.
- You will travel through Route 34, which will lead to Azalea Town.
- Before Azalea, you will pass through Goldenrod City.
- After entering Azalea, perform the following tasks.
- First, visit the Pokemon Center and talk to the NPCs present there.
- Look for the Slowpoke Well event.
- The Bug-type Gym Leader, Bugsy, will appear in front of you.
Note: In Ilex Forest, thick and green trees will block your way. You can use HM01 – Cut to bypass the hidden spots, items, and other parts of the jungle.

Fishing Encounters
Fishing is a fun way to find new water Pokémon in the forest. In Ilex Woods, you can go fishing if you use a fishing rod near the water. There are three kinds of rods: Old Rod, Good Rod, and Super Rod. Each rod helps you catch different kinds of Water-type Pokemon.
With the Old Rod, you might catch a Magikarp. With better rods, you can catch Pokémon like Poliwag or Goldeen. Some Pokémon you find while fishing are not found in the grass.
Items Found in Ilex Forest
You will find several useful items during your journey through Ilex Jungle. The most important one is HM01—Cut, which allows you to cut down the many trees blocking your path. It helps clear hidden routes and provides access to various hidden treasures and gifts scattered around the jungle.
Another valuable item is the Tiny Mushroom, a special trading item. You can exchange it for Pokédollars, making it a helpful way to earn extra money without much effort.
